Testing the Performance of VENTMEDiC® Through Controlled Gas Releases at the University of Calgary – Phase II

This study evaluated the performance of VENTMEDiC®, a methane emissions measurement tool, through 36 controlled lab tests at the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) at the University of Calgary. The tests simulated a range of flow rates and methane concentrations to assess the tool’s accuracy.

This report presents the results of a controlled laboratory evaluation of VENTMEDiC®. The study builds on a previous round of controlled release experiments that assessed VENTMEDiC® performance at low methane emission rates (El Hachem, 2025) and extends the evaluation to higher flow conditions. Together, the two studies provide a comprehensive assessment of VENTMEDiC® performance across a wide range of methane mass flow rates relevant to upstream oil and gas applications.

Overall, results confirm that VENTMEDiC® is well-suited for monitoring low-rate methane emissions from point sources. The system demonstrates strong accuracy at emission rates below 1 g/hour, while maintaining reliable and interpretable performance at higher flows. These outcomes support its application as a practical solution for methane measurement, monitoring, and verification in both regulatory and carbon market contexts.
