The HUB
The operational hub is the West Wolf Lake Gas Plant, co-owned by Tourmaline, Canada’s largest natural gas producer, and Rubellite Energy. This heavily instrumented live gas processing facility allows cleantech vendors to validate their methane technology.
The field manages the intake, site access, test plan development, field test execution, and reporting in collaboration with applicants.
The hub is equipped with additional sensors and instrumentation—significantly more than is typically found in a gas processing facility. This site allows cleantech vendors access to data not often available at a standard live operation.

CREEW
The Controlled Release East Edson Wellsite (CREEW/ Vent Site) is a simulated wellsite designed with known locations and volumes of methane emissions. The releases are controlled by utilizing pneumatic pumps to circulate methanol in a closed loop, enabling releases ranging from 5 to 360 m³/day. This setup provides a realistic environment for technology companies to test the quantification and localization capabilities of their emissions measurement technology, enabling technology providers to refine their sensor placement and software to better quantify and localize methane emissions.
CEMS
The Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) mobile trailer is designed to measure engine exhaust streams and plays a crucial role in quantifying methane slip from natural gas engine exhausts. This tool is essential for independently assessing methane slip, revealing the full emissions profile, and validating cost-effective solutions for its quantification or reduction, offering valuable data for site users.

OTHERS
Tourmaline, as part of the NGIF ETC Program, also permits testing at other sites if the primary facilities do not meet the technology providers' needs. Tourmaline will prioritize validation trial deployments in Alberta. However, in the event no reasonable alternatives can be found, Tourmaline's facilities in British Columbia can also be utilized to ensure the objectives and timelines of the technology provider are met and that the technology can continue to develop effectively.
