Testing the Performance of VENTMEDiC® Through Controlled Gas Releases at the University of Calgary – VENTMEDiC

This study evaluated the performance of VENTMEDiC®, a methane emissions measurement tool, through 36 controlled lab tests at the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre (ETC) at the University of Calgary. The tests simulated a range of flow rates and methane concentrations to assess the tool’s accuracy.

VENTMEDiC® demonstrated strong performance at flow rates above 0.3 g/min, aligning with carbon credit eligibility standards. While accuracy declined at extremely low flow rates, the tool consistently measured methane concentrations with less than 1.6% error. Applying a gas composition correction further improved accuracy. These results confirm VENTMEDiC®’s suitability for monitoring low-rate methane emissions, especially in upstream oil and gas applications.

At NGIF, we invest in companies who are leading in the development of clean technologies for energy and who have the potential to demonstrate significant and quantifiable environmental and economic returns.
